Costa Rica – Day 18
Today was pretty uneventful, but I bet it was better than your normal day (in some areas). It’s Monday again, so we get new students AND new teachers. My class got shook up a little bit, the two Texas State students (Trey and Drew) left this weekend, so I was expecting it to just be me and Daniel. Daniel is a pretty cool guy from Arkansas, his family owns a Jacuzzi business and he’s going to school somewhere in Florida. When we went to the board to check what room we were in I saw something that made my week…The Dream Team has been unified once again!!! That’s right, LJ is in my class! As Ruben would say, “That’s what’s up!” I’m so stoked. LJ might not be very happy about it but I sure am. So, to recap, our class is The Dream Team plus Daniel.
Our new teacher’s name is Xiomara, she’s about 25 years old and loves to hate me. She reminds me of Mrs. Swierc in a lot of ways. If you know anything about my high school years you know that Mrs. Swierc hated having me in class, but she knew how to fight fire with fire, that lady’s got some witty stuff. Anyway I joke around way too much. I can’t remember the last time I’ve gotten this many awkward glares from a teacher, wait, yes I can, it was with Mrs. Swierc 7 years ago. Ha. Love you. My goal in class (after learning of course) is to make Xiomara laugh, I get a kick out of her hating me soo much. I know she wants to put a hole in my face, but for some reason she can’t help but laugh. It’s fun. Aside from that, the class is terribly boring. I think I set myself up for a rough class because I was really talkative the first two hours of class, but when we came back from break I ended up falling asleep…a lot. At one point I was holding my hat in the air just to break her line of sight, it was perfect. The only problem was that once I fell asleep my fingers stopped working and I dropped my hat…awkward. I have found that wearing sunglasses helps hide the fact that I’m sleeping, however it doesn’t help when your head starts bobbing up and down like you keep getting whiplash. Sunglasses also don’t help hide the fact that you’re sleeping if you start drooling, talking in your sleep or snoring. I found out the hard way. It’s going to be a great week.
Juanito (LJ) is talking more now I don’t know if it’s because he’s more comfortable or because I had to learn how to stop talking. I think it’s probably more of the latter. I’m a jerk. Either way, he’s making more conversation with our Tica Familia which is great because it keeps the focus away from me and my terrible jokes about Michael Jackson (our Papa Tica’s favorite artist).
On a more serious note, I found out that Emily is having surgery on Wednesday. She’s gonna pull through, I know, it’s just not good to dwell on the fact that she’s going to be in the hospital more and I won’t be there. I think The Lord is showing me some great things through it because I have to be patient and understand that there are more important things in life than the usual. I’ve taken my sister’s life and health for granted, the saying is true, “You don’t know what you have, until it’s gone” but the statement, “You don’t know what you have until you realize it may be lost” is equally true. I love you EJ, stay strong for all of us.
